GEAS ASSESSMENT OF CATEGORY 3/RAVENOUS
Category 3 is correct in its assertion that success across the spectrum of superthreats requires success against Ravenous. But the logic of the Human Extinction Report holds that this dependence is true for all of the superthreats: We have to succeed with all in order to succeed with any. GEAS believes that Category 3 has focused its efforts on Ravenous not because it is the most vulnerable, but because it is the most frightening.
The three core crises of Ravenous are supply chain disruptions, production shortfalls, and food contamination. Category 3's efforts to worsen these crises have more to do with manipulating the media than with actual system disruption. We at GEAS are confident that the superstructures under development are more than capable of meeting the added challenge that Category 3 poses. Nonetheless, Category 3 reminds us that the superstructures aren't an acute response to a momentary event, but a reconceptualization of how we live.
