Update 4: NOVEMBER 4, 2019
Week four has passed, and over half the new Superstructures created this week deal with the Ravenous Superthreat. This comes as no surprise: the food crisis touches on everything from the intimate rituals of breaking bread with family, through to the colossal world-spanning economic machinery of food production, consumption, and regulation. This is the Superthreat which most closely links the body personal with the body politic, and of these five formidable foes we face, is perhaps the only one which inescapably has a direct bearing on the lives of every last one of us, every single day.
Among this week's new 'structs, the main one striking a chord with SEHIs -- super-empowered hungry individuals? -- is infrarad's Augmented University, a high-tech distance-learning initiative using mixed-reality instruction methods, which has specifically made Ravenous its top priority via My Urban Homestead. The call to find innovative ways to prepare the next generation is being answered: join the movement!
Meanwhile, the pair of 'structs identified as potential movers for last week's Brain Blast -- Food Webbies and Bright Green -- were the two existing Ravenous-oriented initiatives that this week drew the most new members. Thanks to an energetic recruitment drive by founder rtgarden2019, the latter quadrupled in size and as of this update has over 40 SEHIs on the case. These remain excellent starting points for anyone looking to help address this Superthreat.
In breaking news, one tremendously important issue for Ravenous has taken centrestage, an issue which until now has been hiding in plain sight for many of us: Water. It's true, a few
foresightful superstructers saw it coming... almost a month ago, SEHI VDistler urged us to strategise getting water to those who need it most. Also early on, Empiricus started Water Law, an ambitious 'struct (noted back in our first update) dedicated to redesigning our legal and political systems around the water cycle. And rtgarden2019 has pointed out the need to
consider it as part of all our Superstructing efforts. But for the majority of us, only now is the issue swimming into focus. This week, the International Association for Water Analysis announced that precious underground supplies are at critically low levels. We can't help but agree with SEHI PlaNetweaver who recently reflected on the bizarre fact that for a long time, folks in developed countries habitually flushed drinkable water down the toilet... These days, that really does seem crazy.
To contribute on this topic, you might post your own story or video responding to the IAWA announcement, chime in on the discussion "How's your water supply?", or join the Global Water Initiative superstructure.
More broadly, well over 100 Ravenous discussions have been initiated over the past four weeks, and many could still benefit greatly from your contribution. Here are a few examples of the many and varied thought-provoking questions already in play...
> If your community limited its focus to growing five subsistance foods, what would they be? http://superstructgame.org/DiscussionView/48
> What experience have you had with heirloom seed varieties?
http://superstructgame.org/DiscussionView/60
> How happy do you think people would be to eat lab-grown meat?
http://superstructgame.org/DiscussionView/89
> How willing are you to go vegetarian to help ensure we can all be fed? http://superstructgame.org/DiscussionView/224
> Where does the best of your region's produce go -- to locals' tables, or to wealthy tourists and exports?
http://superstructgame.com/DiscussionView/270
> Can you share any small food-saving tips which might make a big impact if they caught on?
http://superstructgame.org/DiscussionView/282
> Would you agree that the First World paradigm of three meals a day is wasteful?
http://superstructgame.org/DiscussionView/325
> How can we tell apart "wants" from what are currently considered First World "needs"?

Finally, before wrapping up for another week, we'd like to make sure you know about three different ways you can connect further with the rest of the Superstruct community...
1. This Wednesday 5 November will be the first E.A.T. (Evolve, Act, Triumph!) Superstruct IdeaFest. Set to take place on the Reconstruct ning network, SEHIs are invited to chat, collaborate and connect throughout the day on Wednesday, wherever you may be. With
participants from all over the world, we can all do our part.
2. The initial gathering of the Screaming 3D Bootstrappers in virtual venue Second Life has been announced for this Saturday 8 November in the afternoon (EST). If you never gave Second Life a try in its early stages, this is a great chance to see why these virtual spaces have become so prevalent in 2019 -- not to mention brainstorming live with other SEHIs in S3DB's virtual meeting area, custom-built for this purpose.
3. If you haven't already, join the live text-based discussions on the Superstruct IRC Channel. Enter a username and leave the password blank. Once it loads up, just type "Hello!" in the text box, and you'll know soon enough if other active users are in the room. If nobody answers right away, give it some time -- people come and go throughout the day.
Folks, with just two weeks to go in this First Big Push for Project Superstruct, now is the time to get together with like-minded, active individuals around the world. There are now more of us than ever; empowered, engaged, and determined to help the human race survive at least another generation...
