Update 4: November 4, 2019
Overview: Week 4
This week has seen a lot of activity. While many are hopeful that the efforts of SEHIs worldwide are paying off, may others are still succumbing to hopelessness and depression. We are seeing great efforts at bringing together people and networks through combining Superstructs, and a lot of activity building enabling technologies to make the SEHIs even more empowered.
Superthreat Depression
This week saw the coinage of a new term: Superthreat depression. Revsparker discusses what happend when he showed up at a planned "Dinner for 12" only to find the host family in a state of disarray and shock: "The house was in disarray a terrible mess. Dirty dishes were everywhere, drawing insects and no doubt, disease. " Being a Reverend, he did what he does best: listen to their stories. "It was as close to a miracle as I’ve seen in a while. Just knowing that others have found a way to not only survive, but begin to make things better in small ways brought the family back to life. I know they will still struggle. “Superthreat depression” isn’t just a state of mind or soul, it’s a real problem of brain chemistry in the face of threats of extinction."
People are dealing with Superthreat depression in myriad different ways. Some fight and others give up. Linza tells the story of a woman who, upon passing away, decided to make sure that her lawyer removed all traces of her existence. She cautions those left behind to justify their reason for survival.
SEHIs Fight Back
One of the interesting things about the Generation Exile superthreat is that it doesn't really exist on its own. It usually is a consequence of one or more of the other 4 threats. Very rarely do we see people becoming displaced from their home for no reason at all. It stands to reason that we cannot solve GenExile without solving each of the others.
This post excerpt from rtgarden2019's blog "Our Road is the Heart", is a perfect example of the kind of collaboration that is going on:
"Pan Human Sustainability is a Bright Green movement that intends to dispel the mythos of urban/suburban/rural and seeks to strive for a larger view of sustainability.
Right now csven and the "The Screaming 3D Bootstrappers (S3DBers)" are working out a virtual space and secure server for the Augmented University which seeks to use demonstration installations and augmented manipulatives to quickly teach sustainable habitat practices to all communities.
Using the power of open source thinking and group collaboration we can team up with the world leaders to quickly teach the greatest number of existing community leaders how to create sustainable human habitat...Together we can strive to meet the needs of refugee populations, ease the pain and isolation of our disabled and frail fellow citizens and create local community bright green centers based on models and training centers we establish internationally online. We can learn how to create a social human colony across human conditions. "
The aforementioned Screaming 3D Bootstrappers have announced that their first virtual outpost will be officially launched November 8, 2019, in the Second Life Snapshot simulation. A prim rezzing ceremony will take place at 1300 EST, followed by a brief presentation on fabbing and manufacturing.
In a similar vein, there has been much activity on Reconstruct, a platform built by ineffabelle, which gives SEHIs access to extensive Web 2.0 capabiities. Reconstruct has been designed to hook into the Superstruct database directly, which should make it a very useful platform indeed. Over 20 Superstructs are making use of Reconstruct's abilities, including CRADLE 2 CRADLE, Emergency Permaculture, Edu-Cycle, P2P Badges and Government, Inc.
Speaking of Government, Inc., I think that this is one of the more interesting ideas I have seen. Marco Antonio writes: "what if anyone could suscribe to any government for certain services, the way people find an internet provider or a private Health insurance company? Then you could belong to different countries/governments at the same time, and Governments would try to work efficiently so as to compete with other governments for the suscription of services."
If you want to see some really far-out thinking about Superstructing check out Infarad's Mind Maps.
On a humorous side, the Esoteric Pony Express is planning something which is probably the opposite of (the now-defunct) FedEx's overnight service: shipping products through a coast-to-cats series of swap-trades, each trade bringing it closer to its destination. As outlandish as it might seem, The New Pony Express has decided to work with them to develop a workable solution.
On a final, positive, note, 1,000 museums have signed on as part of the "Global Village" project, providing services to women in local refugee communities. "We have space, we have expertise, we have other resources that can be of help. This isn't charity! It is a partnership. These women represent new communities that we serve. They can teach us about their needs, their cultures, while we help them integrate into their new homes."
This week has been a little crazy, but it looks like things are really starting to happen. We have over 6300 SEHIs, 481 SUperstructures, and a collective score of over 6900. Our calculated survival date has been pushed back to 2049, over 9 years.
We have managed to accomplish all this in only 4 weeks. I fully expect that things are really going to accelerate between now and November 19th!
