Update 1: October 17, 2019

The Fate of Mankind has Been Calculated

The GEAS report is enough to scare the living daylight out of any human being. The very first line of the report states, "As of the end of 2018, nearly 320 million people, worldwide, had been unwillingly displaced from their homes, driven by environmental disruption, conflict, and the ongoing global health crisis." There are 320 million displaced citizens with nowhere to go and everything to run from. Disease, famine, natural disasters and worst of all...SAVI. GEAS corespondent Jamais Cascio reports, "The very act of publishing the GEAS report changed the future...Riots around the world, a massive jump in suicides, and nearly three hundred death threats against Audrey Chen in the first 12 hours." There is no avoiding the facts. The fate of mankind has been calculated and the results are mind-blowing. We as a species have 23 years to live, unless of course, we find ways to extend our survival horizon.

News From Abroad

The number of migrants are steadily rising as well as the issues that they are facing both externally and internally. Regardless of whether or not you feel inclined to help sustain the human species or help it meet it's demise, that report has made us survey our situations in life. SEHI Ruud Dirven reports that the number of suicides are increasing due to the Voluntary Human Extinction Movement. It turns out that people don't even want to be a part of what might come in 2042, without even trying to defeat the Superthreats.

We all understand that it's difficult to be optimistic in the face of adversity, especially when resources are depleting or as GenEx Guide Steve Puma reports on his hometown becoming contaminated due to natural disasters. Each one of us is surely dreading waking up each morning to watch the news and see the countless number of ReDS victims slowly climb and warning systems are constantly being griefed by hackers. We all know how easy it is to become overwhelmed when you are smack dab in the middle of the largest crisis human beings have faced since the oil shock of 2007.

There have been a couple of interesting video reports so far. Vinay Gupta, otherwise known as the Hexayurt Project, shows us how to map out the elements of survival by Teaching SERAA Mapping. In another video posted by nikasimon, we see the underground railroad organization Year of Plenty preparing for a refugee drop in Santa Cruz on October 11 by boat.

Finding structure amongst the chaos

According to the numerous reports we've received, SEHI are beginning to collaborate in the face of these Superthreats with marked progress. They are already looking to create structured villages and communities. Cybergnome writes asking other SEHI, "What skilled individuals does a sustainable community need?" in an attempt to these skilled individuals needed to create his self-sustaining community of Haven.

Infrared has established the Massive Mission Operations Survey Team (MMOST) SuperStruct that encourages everyone to get out there and document what life is like in your neck of the woods by using any type of media you wish. By doing this, SEHI are actually helping each other make decisions about where to travel to next based upon the report they receive from each area they living in or are temporarily staying.

With the current status of the economy these days, it's not a wonder why Accidental_Tourist has taken up the Flea Market business. Not only is she making an income by selling goods, but she is also using the opportunity to spread the word about her MedEx SuperStruct that focuses on the well-being of those who are on the move. Flea markets have begun to spring up just about everywhere. Some are even said to be just as large as a Super Wal-Mart with most vendors staying open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Helping nomads easily find the resources they need is the idea behind No-Chalking, the Nomadic Markup Language, founded by Michael2019. Combining the hobo signs of the Great Depression with modern-day WarChalking, this superstruct wants to design an easy to use graphical language to assist modern-day travelers.

This week saw many SEHI working to improve the collaboration abilities of GEAS' Superstruct infrastructure itself. MetaStructure founder M. Livre wants to help make designing effective SuperStructs easier. MetaStructure's mission is to recruit event planners and other organized individuals to help other SuperStructs plan their strategies. You can strategize with other SEHI by joining the Superstruct IRC channel, add your location to the SEHI Map or read all the SuperStruct blogs in one place at ineffebelle's BlogStruct meta-blog (join the BlogStruct SuperStruct here). Need help locating collaborators or specific talents? See the classified ads and the JobStruct (launching later this week).

SEHIs Speak Up In The Forums

Infrastructure is a major problem facing both nomads and non-nomads alike. "Transportation in my area is a mess. Driving is no longer an option and public transit is packed." said Elexander Tobias while taking part in a discussion regarding the infrastructure of their current situations, "They just can't keep up with the needs of this city." In the same discussion, Elexandra Tobias relates a similar story, "More people are being arrested, yet violent crime is skyrocketing. I still see people driving but I'm not sure how they afford it."

While participating in a discussion about retaining contact with friends and family while migrating, Modernman pointed out that "People are leaving their homes without knowing where they'll end up and if the place their going will be better or worse...How do they contact each other and how do they keep from being found if they don't want to be?" Suzanne offers a pre-industrial solution: "We can take some ideas from the pre-postal system world. The Pony Express, sending packages through shipping lanes and giving letters to acquaintances leaving town worked on trust and hope." She has even created a superstruct called The New Pony Express!

On a related note, Outlaw Planet Guide Phil Jones is worried about the ability of people to trust, given the fluidity of the situation: "can trust be established when too much is in motion? Can I rely on someone who changes their identity too readily? Can I make business contracts with them? Become too friendly if their personality may change? Fall in love?" Identity security and trust issues continued to be an important topic spanning discussion threads. Tobias Greenich questions, "What kind of security measures could possibly stop all forms of data loss, dishonest voting, or system confusion?" in a discussion about secure voting and identity protection, while L.Cayden Tse offers this solution: "Considering the proliferation of mobile devices as primary means of Internet access for most dispossessed populations, couldn't we somehow tie identity verification into mobile Internet access?"

Pushing out the Survival Horizon

There are many issues to combat in order to extend the survival horizon and it is going to be a difficult task to get it done. But humans, without a doubt, have been known to bite back when bitten. Author Roger Walsh MD recently stated in an interview for his book titled Staying Alive: The Psychology of Human Survival:

"... it's going to take more than we've had before. It's going to take new levels of individual and collective responsibility and maturity and growth and collective action. So it's just possible that the very threats we've created might act as catalysts to pull us out of the situation."

How true that statement is for us at this very moment. Never give up, SEHI's. We can defeat the Superthreats together.
